A 18m x 2m Steel and hardwood footbridge was successfully installed for Horizon Consulting Engineers on behalf of their client Devon County Council. This type of bridge is one of CTS's most popular and ecomonical styles for the 10 - 20m span range as it combines a steel beam with hardwood parapet and deck.
The galvanised steel beam has a nominal camber to give a slight arch on the bridge which assists with drainage and is aesthetically pleasing to the eye. The Galvanised finish provides a durable and long lasting protective coating that requires minimum maintenance.
The FSC accredited Ekki hardwood used for the parapet and deck is extremely durable and comes from sustainable sources. The Type A parapet (vertical infills) are set to avoid children putting their heads through the infills and high enough to prevent climbing.
The FSC Ekki deck is inlaid with CTS's Hi-Grip Excel non slip inserts. These provide great traction for all end users and prevents the deck from becoming slippery when wet or icy.
