As the bridge was not allowed to touch the existing Grade II listed road bridge, CTS designed it to sit onto cantilering columns and to follow the curve of the existing road bridge to make it safer and easier for pedestrians and other users to go over the Kennet and Avon Canal from North to South Hungerford. The bespoke parapet design adds to the elegant style of the footbridge. The ekki hardwood deck with Hi-Grip Excel non-slip inserts provides a durable and safe walking surface in all weather.
